It can be overwhelming looking for dog food for your new White Swiss Shepherd Puppy. To be a responsible dog owner, you need to make sure that your puppy is eating premium high-quality dog food. Finding the right food will keep them healthy after they leave Dances with Wolves Ranch.
Frequency of Feeding
For the first 4 to 12 weeks puppies need food with high nutrient content to support their development. Young puppies need to eat frequently and should be fed around 3-4 times a day. Once they are 3 to 6 months old, the frequency of feeding can go down. Around the age of 6 months you can feed twice a day. At about 1 year old you can begin to transition to feeding once a day or stick with twice daily throughout their life.
Reach out to your breeder, Dances with Wolves Ranch, for a high-quality dog food recommendation. They will know which food your puppy eats and what will work best for your puppy’s breed. A purely kibble dog food diet is entirely sufficient for your White Swiss Shepherd puppy, but if you’d like, you can occasionally mix in some raw meat or vegetables.
Portion Sizes
The best way to determine how much food you should give your Dances with Wolves Ranch puppy is to keep an eye on their weight. Individual metabolism, energy output, and the dog’s body type determine portion sizes. Every dog may need a different amount. If your White Swiss Shepherd puppy isn’t finishing their food or starts to look too heavy, cut back on how much you’re feeding them. However, if you can see their ribs, you may need to start to feed them more.
Puppy games are a good way to exercise and bond with your new White Swiss Shepherd puppy from Dances with Wolves Ranch. Puppies tend to have a lot of energy and puppy games are good way to find a healthy outlet for that energy. Puppy games should be a fun, learning experience that last only a few minutes and end before they get bored.
A good first game is tug-of-war, which will help your White Swiss Shepherd puppy know what is okay to chew on and what isn’t. Only use a specific dog toy to play tug-of-war instead of objects around the house like shoes or towels. This game is also a good way to start their training after they leave Dances with Wolves Ranch. For example, the command “drop it.” As soon as they drop the toy, give them a treat and they learn to associate the command with the action.
The next game that you can play with your White Swiss Shepherd is hide and seek. You can hide and see if your puppy can find you, which could be a good way to teach them the command “come.” You can also hide toys or treats and start to teach him the command “find it.”
Water Games and Agility
At Dances with Wolves Ranch, a fun way we get our White Swiss Shepherd puppies used to water is playing in the sprinkler or running hose. They can splash and chase as they realize water isn’t scary, it’s fun. You could also have them play in a kiddie pool filled with a few inches of water to take the first step getting them familiar with swimming and bathing.
The last puppy game involves a bit of agility. You can have them step or jump over small obstacles and give them treats. This is a great way for them to learn basic commands and burn some energy.

When your White Swiss Shepherd puppy gets home from Dances with Wolves Ranch around 8 weeks, they are at the perfect age to adjust to changes in their environment, bond with people, and begin training. It’s the ideal time to get them used to their new home and family away from Dances with Wolves Ranch. From 8 to 10 weeks your puppy will be very impressionable and easily afraid of things. It’s important that you begin to socialize your puppy and create positive experiences with other people, animals, and situations.
Starting Your Puppy’s Training
From 8 to 16 weeks is the perfect time to start training your White Swiss Shepherd. Positive reinforcement and treats are the best training tactics instead of punishment, so keep him on a leash and try to make sure that all experiences with training and new situations are positive. As a result, your puppy will begin to gain confidence. Around week 12 he will start to find his place in your household and develop his routine.
From 4 to 6 months your White Swiss Shepherd puppy will grow in independence and confidence and become more curious. Take your puppy everywhere with you to strengthen your bond and socialize him. Meanwhile, around this time your puppy will start teething, so it will become important to puppy-proof the house and find toys that will satisfy his urge to chew.
From 6 to 12 months your puppy will need a lot of stimulation and companionship. They will be high energy and their attention span will be short. Make sure they have many opportunities to play and exercise and have toys to chew on and occupy their mind. From 12 to 18 months your White Swiss Shepherd will begin to develop more physical and emotional maturity and confidence.

The first week that your new Berger Blanc Suisse puppy (aka White Swiss Shepherd) moves out of Dances with Wolves Ranch and into your house is exciting. However, it can also be difficult and stressful for you, your family, and your young puppy. Fortunately, there are a few ways that you can plan to make the transition from Dances with Wolves Ranch to your home easier.
Before your new puppy arrives, you’ll need to prepare your house to make sure that your White Swiss Shepherd will be comfortable in their new home away from Dances with Wolves Ranch. A good idea is to have a family meeting to make sure that everybody is on the same page. It’s important to decide who is going to be the main caretaker of the puppy. Who is going to feed the dog? Who is going to let the dog out? It’s also important to make sure everyone understands the rules of the house. Is the dog allowed on the bed? Are any rooms off-limits?
Make sure you have all of your supplies ready and prepare your house. Young puppies love to chew, so you’ll want to create a cornered off living area so they stay away from anything that could harm them. Once your White Swiss Shepherd is home there will be an adjustment period where you’ll want to keep things mellow and set up a routine for play time, meals, bathroom breaks, and exercise.
Training and Socialization
After you take your Berger Blanc Suisse puppy to the vet for his last set of shots, you might think about enrolling him into a puppy training class or puppy socialization program. Even if your puppy has already gone through the Dances with Wolves Puppy Academy Training Program it’s a good idea to continue socializing and building on that training.
When summer arrives, we at Dances with Wolves Ranch are asked if owners should shave their Berger Blanc Suisse dog. Shaving a single coat breed such as a poodle works well but Berger Blanc Suisse dogs have a double coat. You should never shave a double-coated breed.
Double-coated breeds have natural insulation which is good in both the winter and summer. In the winter, the long hair provides protection against snow, ice, and rain whereas the undercoat stays dry and keeps the Berger Blanc Suisse warm. In summer, your dog will shed its soft undercoat while the long hair will remain. This topcoat of longhair protects the dog from insects and sunburn and insulates against heat. Air will circulate through the long hairs and cool the skin.
Shaving a long-coated dog will remove this important insulation. Unfortunately, their coat may never grow back the same! The best way to help your double-coated dog stay cool in summer is to bathe him and use a hair-dryer to blow out the undercoat. You should get a good “rake” type brush designed for removing undercoats.
Doing this thoroughly at the beginning of the summer will make a big difference; you might consider going to a groomer as it is a big job! If you do go to a groomer, be absolutely clear with them that Berger Blanc Suisse dog should not be shaved; many groomers are inexperienced or will take the easy route.
