This four week PUPPY ACADEMY program is designed for new puppy buyers who would like to get a head start on training a puppy before it goes home. You will forgo the messes in the house and skip the whining stage that occurs when the puppy is separated from mom and siblings. With our starter training it will be a much more pleasant transition for the puppy and for your whole family and you can finish training at home using the foundation that we have built for you.
Beginning at eight weeks old, the puppies are separated from their litter mates and move into the trainer’s house where they will begin learning basic home living skills. They will learn the concept of potty training, crate training and will learn basic obedience skills such as: walking on a leash, coming when called, sitting and laying down. The trainer will spend a lot of time teaching your puppy personal egangement with eye contact.
We teach the pups a number of other behaviors they should not do: such as biting hands, feet or clothes or jumping up on people. During the course of daily training, your pup will also learn to be groomed. We place a strong emphasis on socialization and social skills while keeping them safe before they complete all their puppy vaccines. Your PUPPY ACADEMY student will learn about riding in a car and will go on some field trips. As we live on a small family ranch, your PUPPY ACADEMY student will get comfortable with other dogs, horses, ranch equipment and current farm animals. In summer, your puppy will participate in swim lessons in our pool with the rest of our pack.

Note: While with us, your puppy will develop a conceptual understanding and will have a great head start on all the skills listed above. However, every puppy is unique and all puppies have a short attention span just like toddlers! For instance, your puppy will learn basic potty training while with us, but exposure to a new home with new surfaces and rules may create initial confusion for the puppy, so you’ll have to reinforce the concepts they learned at our PUPPY ACADEMY. You could consider additional support from a local trainer once you are home and are ready to build on what your puppy has learned with us. Our goal is that your puppy will understand the concepts and the meaning of commands so that he will respond well to your continuous education once home with you.
The trainer will stay in touch throughout the program with frequent updates and photos of your student.
